Award-Winning Capstone Project Idea:  – Perfect for Final Year Engineering Students (CSE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical, Science) INTRODUCTION Road accidents have remained a major global safety concern since the rapid expansion of motor vehicles in the early 20th century, when increasing traffic density began causing frequent urban collisions. Over time, vehicle safety evolved from simple mechanical bumpers to advanced systems such as airbags, ABS, and sensor-based automation. Pneumatic technology, widely used in industrial automation for decades, has recently gained attention in automotive safety due to its fast response, lightweight structure, and effective impact absorption capability. Globally, road crashes cause about 1.19 million deaths every year, with tens of millions suffering injuries or disabilities, making them one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In India, road accidents remain a serious public health issue, with over 4.5 lakh accidents and more than 1.5 lakh deaths reported in 2022, and fatalities continuing to rise in recent years. Recent reports indicate around 1.7 lakh deaths in 2024 alone, showing the urgent need for improved preventive technologies. These statistics highlight that many crashes occur at low or moderate speeds in urban environments where active collision prevention systems can significantly reduce damage. Considering the importance of vehicle safety, the Advanced Pneumatic Bumper Car is developed as an intelligent prototype integrating ultrasonic sensing, embedded control, and pneumatic damping. The ultrasonic sensor continuously measures obstacle distance, and when a critical threshold is reached, an Arduino-based controller activates a pneumatic bumper through a solenoid valve and air pump. This rapid deployment reduces impact force, protects vehicle components, and improves passenger safety. The proposed system demonstrates a practical approach toward enhancing road safety using intelligent automation and pneumatic technology. OBJECTIVES To build a smart car prototype that detects nearby obstacles using ultrasonic sensors. To deploy a pneumatic bumper automatically using compressed air when a collision is imminent. To demonstrate real-time control using Arduino-based logic and electronics. To improve vehicular safety using intelligent automation. The ultrasonic sensor continuously measures the distance between the vehicle and obstacles and sends data to the Arduino microcontroller for processing. During normal operation, the DC motors drive the vehicle through the motor driver module. When an object is detected at approximately 50 cm, the controller reduces motor speed to achieve controlled deceleration. If the obstacle distance reduces  with a high approach rate, the Arduino activates a relay to power the air pump and energise the solenoid valve. Compressed air is then supplied to the pneumatic cylinder, causing the bumper to extend rapidly and absorb impact energy. Simultaneously, the motor driver executes braking control to stop the vehicle and minimise collision force. This coordinated operation of sensing, control, and pneumatic deployment ensures effective accident prevention and improved vehicular safety. ———————————————————————– Keywords: vehicle accident reduction project, automatic bumper car using Arduino, ultrasonic based obstacle detection, pneumatic bumper mechanism, Arduino car crash prevention, air powered safety car prototype, DIY Arduino safety system, front collision detection project, smart vehicle with pneumatic control, compressed air bumper activation, Arduino and ultrasonic sensor project, intelligent braking and safety system, pneumatic bumper car project, automatic pneumatic bumper car using Arduino, Arduino pneumatic bumper car project, ultrasonic sensor based obstacle detection car, pneumatic collision avoidance system, Arduino accident prevention car project, compressed air bumper mechanism, smart safety bumper car model, pneumatic cylinder bumper project, Arduino ultrasonic safety car, front collision detection using Arduino, air powered safety car prototype, intelligent braking system Arduino project, DIY pneumatic bumper car working model, final year engineering project ideas, major project for engineering students, ECE EEE mechanical project topics, Arduino robotics project ideas, science exhibition car model, best Arduino safety projects Alternative Titles for Pneumatic Bumper Car Project: Design and Fabrication of a Pneumatic-Powered Bumper Safety Car Collision-Resistant Vehicle Using Pneumatic Bumper Mechanism Accident Prevention Car Model Using Pneumatic Bumper Technology Smart Safety Bumper Car Using Pneumatics for Impact Absorption Compressed Air Actuated Bumper System for Vehicle Collision Safety ———————————————————————– Get the full working project with components, code, diagrams & explanation No branding on project, handmade look for students, and different styles as required by students.
