Description African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon)African Blackwood is one of the world’s most prized and dense hardwoods, renowned for its deep purplish-black to near-black heartwood and exceptionally fine, uniform texture. Native to East Africa, this premium timber is highly stable and naturally oily, allowing it to polish to an almost mirror-like finish. Extremely hard and durable, African Blackwood is the material of choice for musical instruments (particularly woodwinds), knife handles, turning blanks, and precision components where strength and dimensional stability are essential. Its subtle grain and rich colour give finished pieces a refined, timeless elegance. ⚠️ Note: Due to its density and natural growth, small surface checks or fine cracks may occur. These characteristics are typical of African Blackwood and are considered part of its natural and authentic character.
